Mariano Montes de Oca has a diverse background in engineering, business management, and psychology. His experiences in education include working with the Pajaro District outreach program at the University of California in Santa Cruz and being a mathematics and engineering teacher at the American School of Puerto Vallarta. He currently teaches AP Statistics, Trigonometry, and Algebra. Mariano is known for seeking innovative ways to enrich the educational process. He is the co-author and administrator of MAP Directed Instruction, an educational system that efficiently uses standardized test results to customize for individual students, better meeting their specific needs. Additionally, Mariano owns and manages a jewelry store in Puerto Vallarta, Sun Silver, that features the works of local artists. Lisa Casarrubias is a certified Spanish/ESL teacher originally from Chicago, IL and works at the American School of Puerto Vallarta as the full-time bilingual substitute teacher and after school program supervisor. She has worked closely with Paul Brocklehurst and Mariano Montes de Oca in regards to the organizational aspect of MDI and also assists as an MDI verbal and math teacher. She collaborated with the founders of MDI to create this website to help bring MDI to the public's attention and share this program with other educational institutions. In pursuit of her love for traveling and experiencing new cultures, she will be spending this summer teaching ESL classes in Fuzhou, China.
